Testlify FAQs: Common Questions Answered
This guide answers the most common questions from Testlify users across all plans. Jump to any section using the headings below.
Account Setup & Login
1. Why can't I log into my account?
Your account may not be verified. Follow these steps:
- Check your Inbox and Spam folder for a verification email from Testlify.
- Click the link in the email to receive your One Time Password (OTP) and verify your account.
- If the email landed in Spam, mark it as Not Junk/Spam so future emails reach your inbox.
- If no email arrived, ask your network administrator to whitelist the Testlify domain.
- Still unable to log in? Contact our support team or email support@testlify.com.
2. Why am I not receiving the One Time Password (OTP)?
- Check your Spam folder for the OTP email.
- If it's not there, ask your network administrator to whitelist the Testlify domain, then try again.
- Still not receiving it? Contact us or email support@testlify.com.
3. Why is my email address not accepted when registering?
Testlify requires a company email address on a custom domain. Personal addresses (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, etc.) and educational addresses are not accepted because:
- Testlify is a hiring tool for companies, not a personal training service.
- Blocking personal emails prevents candidates from self-registering before receiving an invite, protecting your hiring process.
- Blocking educational emails prevents students from using the platform as a study aid.
If you work for an educational institution, contact us to discuss access options.
4. Can I delete my account?
Yes. Contact our support team or email support@testlify.com to request account deletion.
5. How do I add users to my account?
- Log into your account.
- Click the profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Manage Team.
- Click Add Members and enter each user's name and role.
Assessments & Tests
1. Are tests available in different languages?
The skill test library is in English. The candidate interface supports these languages:
- English
- Español
- Deutsch
- Portuguese
- Japanese
- Italian
- French
- Dutch
Test libraries in additional languages are available at extra cost. Email support@testlify.com to request one.
2. Can I customize the test questions asked to candidates?
Standard question banks cannot be viewed, chosen, or customized — this protects test integrity. Questions are rotated and replaced when used too frequently.
You can, however, add your own custom questions to build a private question library for any assessment.
3. Can I set a deadline for my assessments?
Yes. Use the Invitation email link validity setting to control access:
- Open Assessment settings > Configuration > Invitation email link validity.
- Enter the number of days before the link expires.
Tip: Communicate the deadline in your invitation email, then archive the assessment once it passes to block further access.
4. Can I preview my assessment before inviting candidates?
Yes — and we strongly recommend it. To preview:
- Create the assessment.
- Send a candidate invite to your own email address.
You'll experience the assessment exactly as candidates do, letting you catch any issues before launch.
5. Do you offer proctored assessments?
Yes. Testlify provides Remote & AI Proctoring for fair, secure testing. Proctoring features include:
- Trust Insights
- Location and device tracking
- Webcam and microphone-enabled assessments
- Candidate session recording
- Automatic snapshots every 2 minutes
6. Can I delete an assessment?
Assessments cannot be deleted — they can only be archived.
If you haven't invited candidates yet, repurpose the assessment by updating its name and content. Once candidates have been invited, the assessment cannot be edited.
7. How do I edit an assessment?
You can only edit an assessment before any candidates have been invited. To edit:
- Click the assessment.
- Select Edit in the top-right corner.
If candidates have already been invited and you need to make changes:
- Copy the assessment's test token for reference.
- Archive the original assessment to prevent further access.
- Create a new assessment with your changes.
- Re-invite candidates to the new assessment.
8. How do I change the time limit on a test?
- Open the assessment and click Edit.
- Locate the test in the right-hand panel.
- Click the pencil icon next to the test.
- Enter the new time limit.
- Click Save.

9. Who else can edit assessments on my account?
Any team member with the appropriate role permissions can edit assessments. To review or update editing rights, ask the account owner to check Manage Team.

1. Do you offer a free trial?

No. Testlify offers Monthly and Yearly subscription plans. View current pricing here.
3. I can't access my billing details. What should I do?
Go to your Profile to view billing details and invoices. If the issue persists, contact us or email support@testlify.com.
4. Can I get a quote or purchase order?
Yes. Contact us or email support@testlify.com to request a quote or purchase order.
5. How do I cancel my plan?
You can cancel at any time. Export your data first to keep your records. To cancel, contact us or email support@testlify.com.
Results & Analytics
1. How do I download a candidate's results?
- PDF: Open the candidate's results screen and click the Download results icon (downward arrow) in the top-right corner.
- CSV or Excel: Go to the assessment page and export from there.
2. Can I see the questions and answers to the tests?
No. Questions and answers are hidden to protect test integrity. To preview the candidate experience, send yourself a candidate invite and take the assessment.
3. Is there benchmark scoring?
Yes. The default benchmark is All Candidates — it compares each candidate's score against everyone who has taken the same test globally, giving you meaningful context for every result.
4. Why are my candidate's scores so low?
Scores are percentile rankings against all global test-takers — not just your applicants. A score of 30% means the candidate outperformed 30% of all users who have ever taken that test. Low percentile scores are common and do not necessarily indicate poor performance.
Managing Candidates
1. Can a candidate use a mobile device to take an assessment?
Technically yes, but we do not recommend it. Mobile screens make it harder to read questions and enter answers accurately. Assessments with coding questions show a warning discouraging mobile use. For the best experience, candidates should use a laptop or desktop.
2. Can I see how long my candidate took to complete the assessment?
Yes. Click the candidate's record to view their completion time, invite date, and assessment completion date — shown at the top of the candidate's page.
3. Can I limit the number of candidates using the public link?
There is no hard cap on public link usage. To screen candidates before they reach the full assessment, use Qualifying Questions — only candidates who meet your criteria will proceed.
4. My candidate had technical issues. How do I let them retake the assessment?
Assessments cannot be reset directly. To allow a retake:
- Download the candidate's original results for your records.
- Delete the candidate from your candidate list.
- Re-invite them to the assessment.
Note: The candidate will receive the same questions. Advise them to skip questions they already completed.
5. Why can't I invite candidates to my assessment?
You may lack permission to invite candidates to that assessment. Ask your account owner to confirm your role permissions. If permissions are correct and the issue persists, contact us.
6. Why is a candidate's email address not being accepted?
Testlify validates each email address for authenticity. Addresses flagged as fake or containing many numbers or random characters may be blocked. To resolve:
- Confirm the email was entered correctly.
- If it's correct and still rejected, contact us.
7. What instructions does my candidate receive?
When invited, candidates receive an email with a link to the assessment. Before starting, they see:
- Why they are being asked to take an assessment
- The expected time to complete it
- What types of questions to expect
Security, Compliance & Other
1. Can I get a notification when a candidate completes an assessment?
Yes — you automatically receive an email when a candidate completes an assessment. If you're not receiving notifications:
- Check your Spam folder and move Testlify emails to your inbox.
- Ask your network administrator to whitelist the Testlify domain.
2. Can Testlify be used for training or educational purposes?
Testlify is a pre-employment hiring tool, not a training or education platform, and does not issue official qualifications. You can create custom tests for internal training — all questions in custom tests are defined by you.
3. How do I turn off anti-cheating measures?
You can disable webcam capture and snapshot capture in the assessment settings. We recommend keeping these enabled for the most reliable candidate analysis.
4. Is Testlify GDPR compliant?
Yes. Testlify fully complies with GDPR — Europe's data privacy regulation — which requires businesses to protect the privacy of EU citizens. Learn more via the EU's Guide to GDPR Compliance.
5. Is Testlify SOC2 compliant?
Yes. Testlify is SOC2 compliant and meets AICPA standards for data security.
6. Will our data be private and safe?
Yes. Your data is private, protected, and compliant with both GDPR and SOC2 standards.
