How to Configure Assessment Settings

Testlify allows you to fine-tune how candidates experience and complete your assessments through the Configuration tab. These settings help you enhance accessibility, maintain test integrity, and leverage AI tools to improve your hiring process.

Step 1: Navigate to Configuration Settings

  1. Log in to your Testlify account.
  2. Go to the Assessments tab.
  3. Select the assessment you want to edit.
  4. In the left sidebar, click Settings.
  5. At the top of the page, open the Configuration tab.

You’ll now see three sections — Basic setup, AI features, and Notifications.

Step 2: Adjust Basic Setup Options

The Basic setup section controls how candidates access and interact with the assessment.

  • Enable access from mobile/tablet devices

Allows candidates to take the test on their mobile or tablet browsers. Keep this enabled for maximum accessibility.

  • Allow candidates to request accommodation

Lets candidates request special accommodations such as additional time or accessibility adjustments.

  • Accessibility options

Improves the testing experience for candidates with visual or motor impairments.

  • Spell check

Enables automatic spell checking for open-ended, text-based questions.

  • Mandatory test audio/video check

Requires candidates to perform a quick mic and camera test before beginning the assessment. Ideal for proctored or video-based tests.

  • On-screen calculator

Provides an in-app calculator for candidates during numerical or reasoning tests.

  • Allow question read aloud

Lets candidates use text-to-speech to have questions read aloud to them, improving accessibility.

  • Back navigation

Allows candidates to go back to previous questions and review or change their answers.

  • Send results to candidates upon completion

Automatically sends test results to candidates once they finish the assessment.

  • Testlify mobile app fallback

Allows the test to continue through the mobile app if the browser version fails or faces compatibility issues.

  • All questions mandatory

Ensures that candidates must answer every question before they can submit the assessment.

  • Present custom questions in a random order (Coming soon)

This upcoming feature will randomize the order of custom questions to prevent predictability and improve test integrity.

Step 3: Enable AI Features

The AI features section adds intelligence and automation to your assessment and evaluation process.

  • AI insights (Beta)

Displays at the top of the Candidate Report, providing an AI-generated summary of the candidate’s performance. It highlights their key strengths and areas for improvement.

  • AI-suggested interview questions (New)

Automatically generates interview questions based on each candidate’s assessment performance. These questions help hiring managers explore a candidate’s potential more deeply during interviews.

Note: AI-generated interview questions appear only in your candidate report view. They are not visible to candidates and do not appear in their downloadable PDF report.

Step 4: Manage Notifications

At the bottom of the page, you’ll find the Notifications section.

Here, you can choose a Notification preset to define which emails are sent during the assessment process.

Click Configure to customize these notifications, such as candidate invitations, reminders, and result emails.
