How to Configure Assessment Settings

Testlify lets you fine-tune how candidates experience your assessments through the Configuration tab. These settings cover accessibility, test integrity, AI-powered evaluation, and automated notifications — all in one place.

Before you begin

You need Admin or Assessment Manager access to edit assessment settings in Testlify.

Step 1: Open the Configuration Tab

  1. Log in to your Testlify account.
  2. Click the Assessments tab.
  3. Select the assessment you want to configure.
  4. In the left sidebar, click Settings.
  5. At the top of the Settings page, click the Configuration tab.

You'll see three sections: Basic setup, AI features, and Notifications.

Step 2: Configure Basic Setup

The Basic setup section controls how candidates access and interact with the assessment.

  • Enable access from mobile/tablet devices — Allows candidates to take the test on mobile or tablet browsers. Keep enabled for maximum reach.
  • Allow candidates to request accommodation — Lets candidates ask for extra time or other accessibility adjustments before starting.
  • Accessibility options — Improves the experience for candidates with visual or motor impairments.
  • Spell check — Enables spell checking for open-ended, text-based questions.
  • Mandatory test audio/video check — Requires a quick mic and camera check before the assessment begins. Recommended for proctored or video-based tests.
  • On-screen calculator — Provides a built-in calculator for numerical and reasoning tests.
  • Allow question read aloud — Uses text-to-speech to read questions aloud, supporting candidates with reading difficulties.
  • Back navigation — Lets candidates return to previous questions and revise their answers.
  • Send results to candidates upon completion — Automatically emails test results to candidates after they finish.
  • Testlify mobile app fallback — Redirects the test to the Testlify mobile app if the browser version encounters compatibility issues.
  • All questions mandatory — Requires candidates to answer every question before they can submit.
  • Present custom questions in a random order (Coming soon) — Randomizes question order to reduce predictability and strengthen test integrity.

Tip: For senior or remote roles, combine Mandatory test audio/video check with disabled Back navigation to strengthen assessment integrity without adding friction for candidates.

Step 3: Enable AI Features

The AI features section brings automation and intelligence to your evaluation process.

  • AI insights (Beta) — Appears at the top of the Candidate Report with an AI-generated summary of the candidate's performance, including key strengths and areas to improve.
  • AI-suggested interview questions (New) — Generates tailored interview questions based on each candidate's results to help hiring managers probe deeper. Note: These questions are visible only in your report view — candidates cannot see them and they don't appear in downloadable PDF reports.

Step 4: Set Up Notifications

The Notifications section at the bottom of the page lets you choose a Notification preset to control which emails are sent throughout the assessment process — invitations, reminders, and result emails.

Click Configure to customize these settings.
