How to Set Up and Customize Notifications in Testlify

Testlify's Notifications module lets you configure email and text notifications for candidates and test administrators. This guide covers setting up presets, customizing message templates, and managing notification preferences at both workspace and assessment levels.

Before you begin

  • You need Admin or Workspace Owner access to manage notification settings.
  • To send text notifications, candidates must have a valid phone number on file.
  • Text notifications incur per-message costs that vary by country. Review Testlify Text Pricing before enabling.

Accessing Notification Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings from the main menu.
  2. Select Notifications from the sidebar.

Notification Preferences Overview

Enable or disable Email and Text notifications independently for each recipient type:

  • Test Takers: Invitation, Reminder, Completion, Result, Shortlisted, Rejection
  • Test Administrators: Start and Completion

Notification Presets

Presets are saved groups of notification settings you can apply to your workspace or individual assessments for consistent messaging.

Create a preset

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications.
  2. Click the three-dot menu beside a notification type (e.g., Invitation) and select Customize email.

  1. Edit the template as needed.
  2. Click Save as preset at the bottom left.
  3. Enter a name (e.g., Video Interview or MCQ) and click Save.

Apply a saved preset

Select any saved preset from the dropdown when reviewing notification settings. Saved presets appear alongside the default preset (all notifications enabled).

Text Notification Settings

  • Use the Text toggle to turn text notifications on or off per notification type.
  • Only the Invitation text notification is enabled by default; all others are off.
  • The preset dropdown includes all saved presets plus the default (all notifications enabled).

Send a test text

  • From the Customize Text Template screen, click Send Test Text to preview delivery for any notification type.
  • Phone numbers may be valid, invalid, or unverified — only valid numbers receive texts.
  • Bulk text invites display a confirmation prompt before sending.

Text Notification Pricing

Enabling text notifications incurs country-specific costs based on telecom rates. Review the full pricing list before enabling text notifications for your workspace:

Assessment-Level Notification Settings

  1. Open the assessment and go to Assessment Settings → Configuration.
  2. In the Notification Preset dropdown, select the preset to apply to this assessment.
  3. To adjust workspace-level settings, click Configure.
  4. Click Save. Notifications will be sent according to the selected preset.

Important Notes

  • Email notifications are always enabled and cannot be turned off.
  • Text notifications require a valid phone number for each candidate.
  • For test administrators, email notifications for test start and completion are enabled by default; text notifications are disabled.
