What Are AI Phone, Voice, and Chat Interviews?

Testlify's AI Interview feature uses an AI-powered agent to screen candidates automatically across three modes: Phone (Call), Voice (Web), and Chat (Web). The AI asks pre-set questions, evaluates responses in real time, and delivers transcripts and scores to your dashboard—making it ideal for high-volume or frontline hiring.

Before you begin

  • Web Mode (AI Voice / AI Chat): Free to use
  • Phone (Call) Mode: $0.18 per minute — confirm this feature is enabled on your account before inviting candidates

Set Up a New AI Phone Interview Assessment

Use this path to launch a standalone AI Phone Interview from a pre-built template.

  1. Click "Interviews" in the main navigation.

  2. Select a pre-built AI Phone Interview template suited to your role or industry, then click "Use". Testlify automatically creates a new assessment.

  3. Invite candidates as you normally would. Each candidate receives an invitation to complete the AI phone interview.


Add an AI Phone Interview to an Existing Assessment

Embed a phone interview directly within any existing assessment by adding a Voice AI question in Call Mode.

  1. While creating or editing an assessment, go to the Questions section.

  2. Add a new question and choose Voice AI as the question type.

  3. In the Voice AI settings, find the Answer Mode option.

  4. Select Call Mode.

  5. When Call Mode is active, candidates are prompted to enter their mobile number during the assessment.

  6. The AI calling agent initiates the call and conducts the interview, responding dynamically to the candidate's answers in real time.

Tip: Combine Call Mode with other question types in the same assessment to get a full picture of each candidate in a single flow.


Candidate Experience

Here is what candidates go through during an AI Phone Interview:

  1. After registering, the candidate lands on the question page.

  2. The candidate enters their contact number and clicks "Call".

  3. The AI calling agent calls them and conducts a real-time voice interview.

  4. When the call ends, the page shows "Call Completed". The candidate clicks "Submit" to finish their part.


Review AI Call Recordings and Results

  1. Go to the assessment dashboard.

  2. Click the candidate's name to open their result page.

  3. On the result page, you can access:

    • AI interview transcript
    • Audio recording of the call
    • AI-assigned score based on the candidate's responses
    • Answer insights
    • Download option for the call recording
