How to Create a Video AI Custom Question in Testlify

Video AI custom questions add an AI-driven interviewer to your Testlify assessments. The AI asks questions and evaluates candidate responses automatically.

Before you begin

• You must have an assessment open for editing.
• Navigate to the Custom Questions section within the assessment editor.

Step 1: Open the Video AI Question section

1. In your assessment editor, navigate to the Video AI Question section.

Step 2: Choose an AI Avatar and AI Voice

1. Select an AI Avatar to represent the interviewer.
2. Choose an AI Voice for the interviewer.

Step 3: Enter the interview question

1. Under the Question tab, type the question the AI interviewer will ask the candidate.

Step 4: Add an AI Prompt

The AI Prompt tells the AI how to evaluate candidate responses. Choose one of two methods:

Option A: Write manually

1. In the AI Prompt field, describe the interview focus, the criteria to assess, and what a strong response looks like.

Option B: Generate from a job description

1. Click Generate with file.

2. Upload your Job Description as a PDF.
3. Optionally, add custom instructions to refine the generated prompt.
4. Click Generate.

Tip: Use Generate from a job description for high-volume hiring — it builds a structured, role-specific prompt automatically, saving time and improving consistency.

Step 5: Enable AI Insights (optional)

1. Click Show Options.
2. Toggle on AI Insights to automatically score and evaluate candidate responses after the interview.

Step 6: Set candidate speaking controls (optional)

1. Toggle on enable microphone to require candidates to confirm their audio is working before the assessment begins.

Step 7: Save the question

1. Click Save to add the question to your Question Cart.
