How to Create a Video AI Custom Question in Testlify

Video AI custom questions embed AI-driven interview experiences directly into your Testlify assessments. Follow these steps to set one up.

Before you begin

You must be creating or editing an assessment. Open your assessment and navigate to the custom questions section to get started.

Step 1: Open the Video AI Question section

1. While creating or editing an assessment, navigate to the Video AI Question creation section.

Step 2: Choose an AI Avatar and AI Voice

1. Select an AI Avatar to represent the interviewer.
2. Choose an AI Voice that suits your assessment needs.

Step 3: Enter the interview question

1. Under the Question tab, type the question you want the AI interviewer to ask the candidate.

Step 4: Add an AI Prompt

The AI Prompt tells the system how to evaluate candidate responses. Choose one of two methods:

Option A: Write manually

1. Enter your instructions in the AI Prompt field.
2. Specify how the AI should conduct the interview and what to evaluate.

Option B: Generate with File

1. Click Generate with file.

2. Upload a Job Description (PDF).
3. Optionally, add custom instructions to refine the output.
4. Click Generate.

Tip: Use Generate with File for high-volume hiring — it builds a structured, role-specific prompt from your job description automatically, saving time and improving consistency.

Step 5: Enable AI Insights (optional)

1. Click Show Options.
2. Toggle on AI Insights to enable automatic evaluation and scoring of candidate responses.

Step 6: Configure candidate speaking controls (optional)

Enable or disable the requirement for candidates to speak before starting the test.

Step 7: Save and add to your assessment

1. Click Save to add the question to the Question Cart.
2. The question is now ready to use in your assessment.
