How to Add Voice AI Questions to Your Assessments

Voice AI lets an AI interviewer conduct spoken interviews with your candidates — automatically assessing communication, problem-solving, and role-specific skills. Add a Voice AI question to any assessment in minutes.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:

• A Testlify employer account with access to at least one assessment
• A microphone-enabled device (required for candidates using Web mode)

Answer modes

Voice AI supports two ways for candidates to respond:

• Web — the candidate answers directly in their browser. Free.
• Call — the candidate provides a phone number and receives a live call from the AI agent. Charged at $0.18 per minute.

Add a Voice AI question

1. Log in to your workspace at app.testlify.com using your registered email and OTP.

   

2. Select the assessment from your dashboard where you want to add the Voice AI question.

   

3. Click Edit to open the assessment editor.

   

4. Go to the Questions tab.

   

5. Select Voice AI as the question type.

   

6. Configure the question:
   • Choose a sample question or enter a custom prompt.
   • Select an Answer Mode: Web (free, browser-based) or Call ($0.18/min, phone-based). Learn more about Call mode.

   

7. Click Add to include the question in your assessment.

   

8. Click Save to apply your changes.

   

Set up the AI prompt

Choose how to define the AI's interview questions:

Option 1: Write manually

• Enter instructions directly in the AI Prompt field.
• Specify the interview tone, topics, and any follow-up behavior.

Option 2: Generate from a job description

1. Click Generate with file.

   

2. Upload a job description (PDF).
3. Optionally add custom instructions to guide the AI further.
4. Click Generate.

   

Testlify generates a structured AI prompt from your job description, ensuring consistent, role-relevant questions for every candidate.

Tip: Use Generate with file for role-specific interviews — it tailors questions to the skills and responsibilities in your job description, saving you time on prompt writing.

How candidates experience Voice AI

1. The candidate receives an invite and starts the assessment.
2. The AI agent asks questions in a natural voice.
3. The AI records the candidate's spoken responses.

   

4. After the candidate submits, their responses appear on the candidate results page for your review.
