How to Add Voice AI Questions to Your Assessments
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- A Testlify employer account with access to at least one assessment
- A microphone-enabled device (required for candidates using Web mode)
What is Voice AI?
Voice AI questions let an AI agent conduct a spoken interview with your candidates — evaluating communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills. Candidates respond either through their browser (Web mode, free) or via a live phone call (Call mode, charged at $0.18/min).
Add a Voice AI question
- Log in to your workspace at app.testlify.com using your registered email and OTP.

- Select the assessment from your dashboard where you want to add the Voice AI question.

- Click Edit to open the assessment editor.

- Go to the Questions tab.

- Select Voice AI as the question type.

- Configure the question:
- Choose a sample question (the AI prompt is pre-filled), or enter a custom prompt.
- Select an Answer Mode:
- Web — candidate responds directly in the browser. Free.
- Call — candidate provides their phone number and receives a call from the AI agent, simulating a live interview. Charged at $0.18 per minute. Learn more about the Call feature.

- Click Add to include the question in your assessment.

- Click Save to apply your changes.

Set up the AI prompt
You can provide the AI prompt in two ways:
Option A: Write manually
- Enter instructions directly in the AI Prompt field.
- Define how the AI should conduct the interview — tone, topics, and follow-up behavior.

Option B: Generate from a job description
- Click Generate with file.

- Upload the job description (PDF).
- Optionally, add custom instructions to guide the AI further.
- Click Generate.

Tip: Use Generate with file for role-specific interviews — it tailors questions to the exact skills and responsibilities in your job description, so you spend less time writing prompts.
How candidates experience Voice AI
- The candidate receives an invite and starts the assessment.
- The AI agent asks questions in a natural voice.
- The AI interacts with and records the candidate's responses.

- After the candidate submits, their responses appear on the candidate results page for your review.
