Enable and View Question-Level Activity Logs (Proctoring)
Question-level activity logs give you granular visibility into each candidate's behavior during a proctored assessment. For every question, Testlify records how long the candidate spent answering it, whether they switched browser tabs, and any periods of inactivity. These logs help you identify suspicious patterns and make more informed decisions about assessment integrity.
This article explains how to enable, disable, and view Question-level activity logs in Testlify.
Before you begin
- You must have Edit access to the assessment you want to configure.
- Question-level activity logs apply to the entire assessment — they cannot be enabled for individual candidates.
- Enable this setting before candidates start the assessment. Logs are only collected for test sessions that begin after the feature is turned on.
Enable or disable question-level activity logs
-
Log in to your workspace at app.testlify.com using your registered email and OTP.

-
Select the assessment from your dashboard that you want to configure.

-
Click the Edit button in the top-right corner of the assessment page.

-
On the Set Assessment page, click the Settings tab.

-
In the Proctoring section, find Question-level activity logs. Check the box to enable it or uncheck it to disable it, then save your settings.

View question-level activity logs for a candidate
Once logs are enabled, follow these steps to review a specific candidate's activity:
-
Open the assessment from your dashboard.

-
In the All Candidates section, click the name of the candidate whose activity you want to review.

-
On the candidate result page, scroll down to the Proctoring section.

-
Click the Logs button to view the detailed question-level activity — including time spent per question, activity timestamps, and any flags for unusual behavior such as tab switching or inactivity.

Tip: Review logs promptly after an assessment while the context is fresh. Pay attention to candidates who spent unusually short or long periods on specific questions, or who have repeated tab-switch flags — these patterns can signal the need for closer review.
Frequently asked questions
What does the question-level activity log capture?
The logs record how long a candidate spent on each question, any instances of tab switching, and periods of inactivity during the assessment.
Can I enable logs for a specific candidate only?
No — the setting applies to the entire assessment. Once enabled, logs are collected for all candidates who take that assessment.
Will enabling this feature slow down the assessment?
No — data is collected in the background with no impact on assessment performance or the candidate's experience.
Are candidates told that question-level logs are enabled?
Candidates are not explicitly notified when this specific feature is active, but they are generally aware that proctoring measures are in place for the assessment.
