Enable and Use Snapshot Proctoring

Snapshot Proctoring captures photos of candidates at set intervals during an assessment. Use it to verify candidate identity and deter cheating in remote or unmonitored testing environments.

Before you begin

• Each candidate must have a working webcam.
• Testlify requests camera and microphone access when a candidate starts the assessment. The candidate must grant both to proceed.

Enable Snapshot Proctoring

1. Open your assessment — create a new one or select an existing one to edit.
2. Select the Proctoring tab in the assessment settings.
   
3. Check the Snapshot Proctoring checkbox to turn the feature on.
   
4. (Optional) Set the Snapshot Interval — the number of seconds between each photo. The default is 120 seconds. Lower the interval for higher-stakes assessments.
   
5. Click Save. Candidates will see a camera permission prompt when they start.

Review candidate snapshots

1. Open the candidate's completed assessment report.
2. Go to the Proctoring section on the Candidate Display page.
3. Browse the snapshots to check for suspicious activity — such as a different person in frame, the candidate looking away repeatedly, or unauthorized materials visible.

Tip: Set the interval to 60 seconds for critical assessments to capture twice as many photos with minimal impact on candidate experience.
