Restrict Candidates from Using AI Plugins During Assessment

Testlify's AI Assistance detection prevents candidates from using AI plugins or browser-based AI tools during assessments, ensuring results reflect each candidate's own abilities.

Before you begin

You need Admin or Manager access to edit assessment settings in your Testlify workspace.

Enable AI Assistance Detection

  1. Log in to your workspace at app.testlify.com using your registered email and OTP.

  2. On the Assessments dashboard, locate the assessment you want to update.
  3. Click the three-dot menu next to the assessment name and select Edit.

  4. In the Setup Assessment page, go to the Settings tab.
  5. Select Proctoring > AI Assistance.
  6. Check the box to enable AI Assistance detection.
  7. Set the termination limit — the number of violations allowed before the candidate is automatically removed from the assessment.
  8. Click Save to apply your changes.

Tip: Set a termination limit of 2–3 to give candidates a chance to address an accidental trigger while still enforcing the policy.

How It Works

Once the assessment starts, Testlify monitors the candidate's browser for AI plugins and external assistance tools. If an AI tool is detected:

  1. A warning is displayed to the candidate.

  2. Each detection is logged as a violation. When violations exceed the termination limit, the candidate is automatically removed from the assessment.

All violation logs are available on the candidate's result page for recruiter review.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if a candidate triggers the detection accidentally? A warning is shown first, giving the candidate a chance to disable the tool before further action is taken.
  • Can I change the termination limit after enabling the feature? Yes — return to Proctoring > AI Assistance in the assessment settings at any time.
  • Are candidates informed about the restriction? Yes, candidates see a notification at the start of the assessment explaining the rules and consequences of using AI tools.
  • What if a candidate disputes a termination? Recruiters can review the detailed violation logs on the candidate's result page to verify the session.
