Detect and Restrict LanguageTool AI Grammar Checker/Paraphraser
Testlify's AI Assistance Proctoring feature helps identify the use of supported browser extensions during an assessment. When AI Assistance Proctoring is enabled, the system should detect the LanguageTool browser extension and restrict candidates from using its AI Grammar Checker and Paraphraser features while taking the assessment.
This helps maintain assessment integrity by preventing candidates from using AI-powered grammar correction or paraphrasing tools to assist with their answers.
How LanguageTool Detection Works
When AI Assistance Proctoring is enabled for an assessment, the system should detect LanguageTool when it is installed and active in the candidate's browser. If the extension is detected, the system should trigger the appropriate warning or proctoring violation according to the configured behavior.
Enable AI Assistance Proctoring
Follow the steps below to configure and verify this behavior.
Step 1: Open Your Assessment
Go to Assessments from your Testlify dashboard and open the assessment for which you want to apply AI Assistance Proctoring.

Step 2: Edit the Assessment
Once you have opened the assessment, click Edit to access the assessment settings.

Step 3: Navigate to Assessment Settings
From the assessment editing page, click Settings in the left-side menu.

Step 4: Open the Proctoring Settings
Under Settings, navigate to the Proctoring tab and locate the AI Assistance Proctoring option.
Enable AI Assistance Proctoring if it is not already enabled, then save the changes.

How LanguageTool Detection Works for Candidates
Once AI Assistance Proctoring is enabled, the system should check for LanguageTool when the candidate takes the assessment.
Step 1: Candidate Opens the Assessment
The candidate opens the assessment using the invitation link and completes the required setup steps.
Step 2: LanguageTool Is Detected
If the LanguageTool browser extension is installed and active, the system should detect it according to the configured AI Assistance Proctoring behavior.
Step 3: Warning or Violation Is Triggered
When LanguageTool is detected, the appropriate warning or proctoring violation should be triggered. The candidate should not be able to use LanguageTool's AI Grammar Checker or Paraphraser features to assist with their answers during the assessment.
The detection should continue to work throughout the assessment, not only during the initial checks.
Important Notes
- LanguageTool detection depends on AI Assistance Proctoring being enabled for the assessment.
- LanguageTool should be detected when the extension is installed and active in the candidate's browser.
- The AI Grammar Checker and Paraphraser features should be restricted during the assessment when the extension is detected.
- The appropriate warning or violation should follow the existing AI Assistance Proctoring behavior.
- When AI Assistance Proctoring is disabled, LanguageTool should not be unnecessarily restricted by this feature.
- Existing detection behavior for other supported AI extensions should remain unaffected.
