(US Region) NEOGOV Integration withTestlify: Step-byStep Guide

Video:

Overview

The NEOGOV Insight integration lets your recruiters send Testlify assessments to candidates from NEOGOV and see the scores in NEOGOV, without switching systems.

How it works once set up:

  1. A recruiter moves a candidate to an assessment step in NEOGOV Insight.
  2. Testlify invites the candidate, hosts the assessment and proctors it.
  3. When the candidate finishes, Testlify sends the score back to NEOGOV, where it appears on that candidate's evaluation step.

Setup has two parts: Part A connects your NEOGOV account in Testlify (a few minutes), and Part B configures the test, exam plan and evaluation step in NEOGOV Insight.

Prerequisites

Have these ready before you start:

  • NEOGOV credentials: a Client ID and an API Key, provided by your NEOGOV implementation consultant. Treat the API Key like a password and never share it in chat or screenshots.
  • Testlify access: a Testlify user who can open Settings > Integrations.
  • NEOGOV Insight access: permission to manage Written Exams (Tests menu), Exam Plans (Jobs menu) and Applicants.
  • A Testlify assessment to use for candidates. It appears in NEOGOV's Test Code list once the integration is connected.

Setup steps

Part A: Connect NEOGOV in Testlify

  1. Sign in to Testlify and click the gear icon (Settings) at the top right.
  2. In the left menu, under Developers, click Integrations.
  3. Under ATS integrations, find NeoGov. You can type "neo" in the Supported integrations search box.
  4. Click NeoGov. The page "Your NeoGov account's credentials" opens.
  5. Enter the Client ID and API Key from your NEOGOV implementation consultant, then click Next.
  6. When you see "NeoGov is now connected to your workspace", click Continue.
  7. Back on Settings > Integrations, refresh the page if a banner asks you to. NeoGov should now be listed under Integrations with category ATS and status Active.

Steps 2-3: Settings > Integrations lists the supported ATS integrations. Search for NeoGov.

Steps 4-5: Enter the Client ID and API Key, then click Next.

Step 6: Confirmation screen. Click Continue.

Step 7: NeoGov appears under Integrations with status Active.

Testlify's confirmation message reminds you to also complete the steps in NEOGOV, which is Part B.

Part B: Configure NEOGOV Insight

  1. Create the written exam. In NEOGOV Insight, open Tests > Written Exams and click Add. Enter the Test Title, set Vendor Integration to Testlify, then choose the Test Code. The list shows your Testlify assessments. Enter the Max Score (100 in the demo), add a description if you like, and click Save.
  2. Add a test date. On the Written Exams list, click View Dates for your test, then Add New Test Date. Fill in Location, Test Date, Test Time and Test Duration, then click Save. Self-scheduling is optional and was left off in the demo.
  3. Open the exam plan. Go to Jobs > Exam Plans and open the exam plan (job posting) that candidates will apply to. Its Evaluation Steps table lists each step in order.
  4. Add or edit the Testlify evaluation step. In Evaluation Steps, click Add Step (or Edit on an existing step) and set:
    • Step Type: Written Exam
    • Step Name: for example "Testlify Assessment"
    • Evaluate On: Scored
    • Prerequisite Steps: tick the steps a candidate must clear first (the demo required the Backend Developer step)
    • Cumulative Score: choose Show Cumulative Score if you want a running total
  1. Link the exam. Under Written Exam Details, select the Testlify written exam from step 8 in the Exam field.
  2. Set the exam sections. For each section (the demo had one per question), enter the Section Weight, Max Raw Score, Passing Score and whether a pass is required. The demo used 50, 25 and 25 for weights and max scores, so they total 100.
  3. Set scoring. In the Scoring block the demo used: Calculate Final Score Based On = Percentage Score, Final Score Weight = 100%, Decimal Places = 2, Passing Score Percentage = 35%, Max Raw Score = 100, Test Score Reuse = Use highest score, Capture T-Score = Yes.
  4. Click Save. NEOGOV shows "Evaluation step updated successfully" and the step appears in the exam plan.

Step 8: In Add Test, set Vendor Integration to Testlify, then pick the Test Code.

Step 9: Add a test date for the exam.

Step 10: The exam plan's Evaluation Steps table.

Step 11: Step Type is Written Exam; give the step a name, set Scored, prerequisites and cumulative score.

Step 13: Weight, max raw score, passing score and pass-required for each section.

Step 14: Scoring settings used in the demo.

Using the integration

  1. Add the applicant. In NEOGOV Insight, open Applicants > App Entry, search for the candidate, then add a new application. Select the job posting tied to your exam plan, complete the applicant details and attachments, and save.
  2. Open the applicants by step. On the exam plan, click View Applicants by Step. New applicants sit in Step 1: Application Received.
  3. Advance the candidate. Open the candidate's disposition, set Pass/Fail Step to Passed, set Advance passing candidates automatically to Yes, and click Save. Repeat for any steps before the Testlify step (Step 2 in the demo). NEOGOV confirms with "The Candidate(s) have been moved to next step".
  4. Candidate is invited. Once the candidate reaches the Testlify step (Step 3 in the demo), they appear in Testlify under the assessment's All candidates list with an Invited On time. Their assessment link is shown in the Valid Test URL column in NEOGOV.
  5. Candidate takes the assessment. The candidate opens the link, enters their name and email, checks the instructions page (internet, browser, full screen) and answers the questions. The final screen reads "Session completed".
  6. View the result in NEOGOV. Refresh the step. The candidate's row shows the disposition (for example Pass), the score (100.00% in the demo), and the Test Taken Date. Open the candidate's application to see the score for each section.

Step 1: Select the job posting tied to your exam plan when entering the applicant.

Step 3: Set the disposition to Passed and choose Yes to advance automatically.

Step 6: The candidate's Pass result and score appear on the Testlify step (candidate names hidden).

Troubleshooting

Problem What to check
NeoGov does not show as Active after connecting Refresh Settings > Integrations. Confirm you finished Part B in NEOGOV.
The credentials page rejects your details Re-enter the Client ID and API Key exactly as provided, with no extra spaces. Ask your NEOGOV implementation consultant to confirm them.
Vendor Integration does not list Testlify, or Test Code is empty Confirm Part A is complete and that the assessment exists in Testlify.
Candidate does not appear in Testlify Confirm the candidate is on the Testlify step and that the exam is linked to that step (steps 11-12).
Score is missing in NEOGOV Confirm the candidate finished the assessment ("Session completed"), then refresh the step.
Score or pass/fail looks wrong Review the section weights, passing scores and Passing Score Percentage in the evaluation step (steps 13-14).
