Specify AI Prompt (Advanced and Basic Video and Voice)

When configuring a Voice AI or Video AI question in Testlify, you can choose how you want to guide the AI during the conversation with the candidate.

Testlify provides two AI prompt types:

Basic – Specify your questions
Advanced – Specify AI prompt

This article explains how each option works and how to configure the AI prompt for both Voice AI and Video AI questions.

Choose an AI Prompt Type

After configuring your Voice AI or Video AI question, navigate to the AI prompt type section.

Click the dropdown to choose how you want to guide the AI during the conversation.

You can select:

Basic – Specify your questions
Advanced – Specify AI prompt

Let's Understand the AI Prompt Types

Before configuring the AI prompt, let's understand the two available options.

You can choose Basic – Specify your questions when you want the AI to follow a predefined set of questions, or Advanced – Specify AI prompt when you want to provide broader instructions and give the AI more flexibility during the conversation.

Let's take a closer look at how each option works.

Basic – Specify Your Questions

The Basic prompt type allows you to provide a predefined set of questions that you want the AI to ask the candidate during the conversation.

This option is useful when you want greater control over the specific questions asked by the AI.

Step 1: Select Basic – Specify Your Questions

From the AI prompt type dropdown, select Basic – Specify your questions.

For Voice AI & Video AI

Step 2: Add Your Questions

Under Specify questions, enter the questions you want the AI to ask the candidate.

You can add multiple questions based on your interview requirements.

For Voice AI & Video AI

Step 3: Manage Your Questions

Once questions have been added, you can manage them as needed.

You can:

Add additional questions.
Edit existing questions.
Delete questions that are no longer required.
Rearrange questions using the available drag option.

For Voice AI & Video AI

The AI will attempt to ask the specified questions during the configured conversation time.

Note: If multiple questions are added and the available conversation time is limited, the AI may not be able to ask all the specified questions.

Advanced – Specify AI Prompt

The Advanced prompt type gives you more flexibility by allowing you to provide detailed instructions for how the AI should conduct the conversation.

Step 1: Select Advanced – Specify AI Prompt

From the AI prompt type dropdown, select Advanced – Specify AI prompt.

For Voice AI & Video AI

Step 2: Choose How to Create Your AI Prompt

Once Advanced – Specify AI prompt is selected, you can choose how you want to create the AI prompt.

You can either manually enter an AI prompt or generate one using a file. These are alternative options and are not sequential steps.

Let's look at both options.

Option 1: Enter Your AI Prompt

Use the AI prompt field to manually provide detailed instructions for the AI.

Your prompt can include:

The context or scenario for the conversation.
The purpose of the interview.
Topics the AI should explore.
How the AI should interact with the candidate.
Specific instructions for conducting the conversation.

The AI will use the instructions provided in the prompt to guide the conversation with the candidate.

For Voice AI & Video AI

Use the Write Feature to Improve Your AI Prompt

The Write feature can help you create, refine, and improve the AI prompt directly within the editor.

Click Write to access the available options.

The Write feature can help you:

Fix spelling & grammar – Correct spelling and grammatical errors in your prompt.
Improve writing – Enhance the clarity and overall quality of the prompt.
Make shorter – Condense the prompt while retaining the key instructions.
Make longer – Expand the prompt by adding more detail and context.
Change tone – Adjust the tone of the prompt based on your requirements.
Translate – Translate the prompt into another language.

For Voice AI & Video AI

Option 2: Generate an AI Prompt Using a File

Alternatively, you can use the Generate with file option to create an AI prompt using information from a relevant file.

This option can help generate a structured AI prompt based on the uploaded job description and any additional instructions you provide.

Click Generate with File

Click Generate with file next to the AI prompt field.

For Voice AI & Video AI

Upload the Job Description and Generate the Prompt

After clicking Generate with file, the Generate prompt window will appear.

Upload the relevant job description by clicking Select PDF file.
Optionally, add Custom instructions to provide additional context or requirements for the AI prompt.
Click Generate to create the AI prompt based on the information provided.

Testlify will use the uploaded job description and any custom instructions provided to generate an AI prompt that can guide the conversation with the candidate.

Important Note

When using Basic, the AI will attempt to ask the specified questions within the configured conversation time. Depending on the number of questions and the available time, some questions may not be asked.

When using Advanced, providing clear and detailed instructions can help guide the AI and create a more relevant conversation experience.
