Accessibility and Candidate Accommodations

Our approach to accessibility

Testlify aims to make assessment experiences usable by a broad range of candidates and to reduce barriers that are unrelated to the capability being measured.

Accessibility is an ongoing product and content responsibility. It includes:

  • platform design
  • keyboard and assistive-technology usability
  • readable content
  • appropriate contrast and focus states
  • clear instructions
  • captioning or transcripts where relevant
  • time and interaction requirements
  • assessment content
  • proctoring configuration
  • candidate support

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, including WCAG 2.2, provide an important reference for digital accessibility. A statement of formal conformance should be made only for the specific scope that has been evaluated.

What is an accommodation?

An accommodation is a reasonable adjustment intended to reduce a disability-related barrier without changing the capability the assessment is meant to measure.

Examples may include:

  • additional time
  • alternative formats
  • screen-reader support
  • keyboard-only navigation
  • adjusted display settings
  • breaks
  • modified proctoring settings
  • an alternative assessment method

Availability depends on the assessment, platform capability, customer policy, and the candidate's circumstances.

Who approves accommodations?

The employer or assessment administrator is generally responsible for reviewing and approving accommodation requests under applicable law and organizational policy.

Testlify can support available configuration options, but the customer remains responsible for determining what is appropriate for the role and candidate.

Can an accommodation affect score interpretation?

It may.

Some accommodations preserve comparability, while others may change administration conditions enough to require contextual interpretation.

Customers should document the accommodation and avoid assuming that every adjusted administration is directly comparable without review.

What if an assessment is not accessible to a candidate?

The customer should consider an alternative method that measures the same job-related capability with fewer barriers.

A candidate should not be disadvantaged because the selected technology or format measures an irrelevant disability-related limitation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Testlify WCAG-certified?

WCAG is a technical conformance standard, not a general product certification issued by W3C. Any conformance claim should identify the evaluated version, level, scope, and date.

Can candidates request extra time?

Candidates should contact the employer or assessment administrator. Approval and availability depend on the assessment and applicable accommodation process.

Can proctoring be adjusted as an accommodation?

Where supported and appropriate, settings may be adjusted or an alternative method may be considered.

Does an accommodation give a candidate an unfair advantage?

A properly designed accommodation is intended to remove an irrelevant barrier, not lower the job-related standard.

Who should candidates contact for help?

Candidates should use the support channel provided in their assessment invitation or contact the assessment administrator.
