Understanding Internet Speed & System Requirements for Testlify Assessments

To ensure a smooth assessment experience, it’s important to understand how internet speed and system performance affect test behavior. This article clarifies how our speed checks work and sets the right expectations for candidates and clients.

1️⃣ Internet Speed Check on the Instruction Page

Before starting an assessment, candidates land on the Instruction Page, where we verify their internet speed (both download and upload).

Minimum required speed:

  • 2 Mbps Download
  • 2 Mbps Upload

If the speed is below 2 Mbps, the candidate will see:

  • A “Try Again” button
  • The message:

“Make sure that you have uninterrupted high-speed internet.”

This check ensures the candidate has a stable network before beginning the assessment.

Important: The speed verification happens only on the Instruction Page, before the assessment begins.

2️⃣ No Question-Level Internet Restriction

There is no internet speed restriction at the question level.

  • We do not block specific questions based on network speed.
  • There is no backend or code-level logic that disables individual questions due to bandwidth.

The 2 Mbps requirement applies only during the initial pre-assessment check to ensure basic readiness.

3️⃣ Network Speed vs System Performance

Assessment performance depends on both:

  • 🌐 Internet speed
  • 💻 Candidate’s system performance (CPU, RAM, browser efficiency)

Here’s how they interact:

  • Even with lower internet speed, the assessment may run smoothly if the system performance is strong.
  • If system performance is weak (low RAM, heavy background applications, outdated browser), the experience may feel slow even when internet speed meets the minimum requirement.

For the best experience, candidates should:

  • Use the latest version of Google Chrome.
  • Close unnecessary background applications.
  • Avoid multiple heavy browser tabs during the test.

4️⃣ Third-Party / External Application-Based Questions

Some question types rely on external environments or third-party services. Examples include:

  • MS Excel-based questions (iframe-based environments)
  • Coding questions
  • AI-powered questions (third-party AI integrations)

These question types:

  • Perform best on stable, higher-speed internet.
  • May experience delays or lag if the connection is unstable.
  • Are also influenced by system performance.

Again, there is no separate internet speed threshold configured for these question types.

Their performance depends naturally on real-time connectivity and device capability.

Key Takeaways

  • ✅ Minimum required speed: 2 Mbps (Download & Upload)
  • ✅ Speed is checked only on the Instruction Page
  • ❌ No question-level network restrictions exist
  • ⚙️ Assessment performance depends on both internet speed and system capability
  • 🌐 Third-party/iframe-based questions require stable connectivity for best performance

Setting the right network and system conditions ensures a smooth and uninterrupted assessment experience.
