Show Total Question Count to Candidates
The Show total question count to candidates feature gives candidates greater clarity before they begin an assessment by displaying the total number of questions included. This helps set expectations, reduces uncertainty, and improves the overall candidate experience.
Employers can easily enable or disable this setting based on their assessment strategy.
How It Works
When enabled, candidates will see the total number of questions on the assessment welcome screen. When disabled, only the number of sections and completion time are displayed.
This is especially useful for:
- Improving transparency in the hiring process
- Helping candidates manage their time effectively
- Reducing drop-offs caused by uncertainty
- Creating a more professional assessment experience
How to Enable or Disable the Feature
- Go to Assessments.
- Open the assessment you want to edit.
- Navigate to Settings โ Configuration.
- Locate Show total question count from candidates.
- โ Check the box to enable the feature.
- โฌ Uncheck the box to disable it.
- Click Save to apply changes.

Before vs After Experience
๐น Before Enabling (Hidden Question Count)
Candidates will only see the number of sections and estimated completion time.

๐ This approach works well if you prefer not to reveal assessment length upfront.
๐น After Enabling (Visible Question Count)
Candidates can clearly view the total number of questions, helping them prepare before starting.

๐ Ideal for creating a transparent and candidate-friendly testing experience.
Best Practice
We recommend enabling this feature when:
- Your assessment is longer than average
- Candidate experience is a priority
- You want to build trust through transparency
You may prefer disabling it when you want candidates to focus purely on the questions without forming assumptions about difficulty based on length.
