Ensuring Assessment Integrity with Browser Restrictions
Browser restriction allows you to control which web browsers candidates can use to take an assessment on Testlify. This feature helps maintain assessment integrity by preventing candidates from attempting tests on unsupported or potentially insecure browsers.
When browser restriction is enabled, candidates using a restricted browser will not be able to start the assessment and will be prompted to switch to a supported browser.
How to Enable Browser Restrictions
To restrict browsers for an assessment, follow these steps:
- Go to Assessments from the top navigation bar.
- Open the assessment you want to configure.
- Click Settings from the left-hand menu.
- Navigate to the Access tab.
- Scroll to the Browser restriction section.

- Click the dropdown and select one or more browsers that candidates are allowed to use.

- The selected browsers will appear as tags in the field.
- Click Save to apply the changes.

Once saved, only candidates using the selected browsers will be able to access the assessment.
Available Browser Options
You can choose from a list of supported browsers, including:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Brave
- Dia Browser
- Sigma AI Browser
- Other supported browsers shown in the dropdown
Note: The list of supported browsers may change as Testlify adds or updates compatibility.
What Candidates See if They Use a Restricted Browser
If a candidate opens the assessment link using a browser that is not allowed, they will see a “Browser not supported” page.
On this screen, candidates will:
- See a message explaining that their current browser is not supported.
- Be asked to copy the assessment invite link.
- Be instructed to paste the link into one of the supported browsers.
- See quick-access options for supported browsers (such as Chrome or Edge).
The candidate will not be able to proceed with the assessment until they switch to an allowed browser.

Best Practices
- Inform candidates in advance about supported browsers to avoid delays.
- Recommend commonly used browsers like Chrome or Edge for the best experience.
- Test the assessment link yourself to ensure browser restrictions are working as expected.
