Auto-Detect Internet Speed Feature (Employer Guide)
Auto-Detect Internet Speed Feature (Employer Guide)
To ensure every candidate has the best possible experience during their assessment, Testlify now includes an Auto-Detect Internet Speed feature. This feature automatically checks a candidate’s internet connection before the test begins and provides feedback based on their connection quality.
How It Works
- When a candidate starts their assessment, the system automatically runs an internet speed check.
- The check runs for up to 15 seconds.
If the system cannot determine the speed within that time, the candidate can still proceed with the test.
What Candidates Will See
🟡 Before Check
- Title: Check Your Connection
- Message: Ensure a stable, high-speed internet connection for a smooth assessment experience.
🔴 Slow Connection
- Title: Weak Internet Detected
- Message: Your connection seems slow. Switch to a better network for the best performance during the assessment.
- Note: The message will appear with a red border for clear visibility.
🟢 Good Connection
- Title: Good Internet Detected
Message: Your internet speed looks strong. You’re ready to begin the assessment.

Why This Matters
A stable internet connection helps:
- Prevent interruptions during video or audio responses.
- Ensure smooth performance in live proctoring sessions.
Improve overall candidate experience and reporting accuracy.
How to Enable the Auto-Detect Internet Speed Feature
You can enable or disable this option directly from your Assessment Settings:
- Go to your Assessment settings.
- Click the Settings ⚙️ icon in the left navigation tab list.
- Select the Proctoring tab.
- Scroll down and find the Auto-Detect Speed option.
- Tick the checkbox to activate it.
Click Save Changes to confirm.

✅ Once enabled, the system will automatically perform an internet speed check before every candidate’s assessment begins.
Best Practice for Employers
- Keep this feature enabled to ensure candidates are aware of their internet condition before starting.
- If a candidate reports connectivity issues, confirm whether they received a Weak Internet Detected warning.
Encourage candidates to use a strong Wi-Fi or wired connection and close unnecessary browser tabs before taking the test.
Tip:
A quick internet check can prevent unnecessary test interruptions and ensure smooth proctoring. Encourage candidates to complete this step before every assessment for the best results.
