Proctoring Features Not Supported on Mobile Devices

Before you begin

Testlify's proctoring system is designed for desktop and laptop devices. Several monitoring features rely on browser APIs and hardware capabilities that mobile devices do not support. If your candidates may take assessments on a phone or tablet, review this list before configuring your proctoring settings.

Standard Proctoring Features Not Available on Mobile

The following features are automatically disabled when a candidate accesses an assessment from a mobile device:

  • Force Full-Screen Mode — Requires the browser to lock the candidate in full-screen view. Mobile browsers and apps cannot enforce this restriction.
  • Tab Proctoring — Detects when a candidate switches browser tabs. Mobile devices lack the tab-tracking APIs required for this feature.
  • Dual Camera Proctoring (Tablet + Phone) — Uses a primary system camera and a secondary mobile camera simultaneously. This setup requires a laptop or desktop as the primary device and cannot be enabled on mobile alone.
  • Restrict Multiple Monitors — Detects and blocks the use of additional screens. External monitor detection is not available on mobile hardware.
  • Copy/Paste Tracking — Logs clipboard activity during the assessment. Not supported in mobile browsers.
  • Mouse Out Tracking — Records when the cursor leaves the test window. Touch-screen devices do not use a traditional mouse, so this feature does not apply.
  • Session Recording — Captures the candidate's on-screen activity for review. Currently unavailable on mobile devices.

Advanced Proctoring Features Not Available on Mobile

The following advanced features are also incompatible with mobile devices:

  • Live Video Proctoring
  • Screen Recording

Recommended Device Setup

For the best experience and to ensure all proctoring features work correctly, ask candidates to complete assessments on a laptop or desktop with the following:

  • The latest version of Google Chrome
  • A stable internet connection
  • A working webcam and microphone

Tip: Before sending assessment invitations, confirm which device candidates plan to use. If mobile access is unavoidable, disable incompatible proctoring features to avoid inaccurate flags in candidate results.
