Introducing MS Word & MS Excel Question Types in Testlify’s Custom Questions

At Testlify, we continually strive to improve the hiring experience for our customers by offering tools that closely replicate real-world job scenarios. We are pleased to announce the launch of a new enhancement to our Custom Questions: employers can now create assessment tasks using Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) and Microsoft Powerpoint (.pptx, .ppt) files.

This new functionality allows employers to evaluate candidates on practical skills more accurately and efficiently.

Overview of the New Feature

You can now upload MS Word (.doc) and MS PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt) templates to your questions.

  • A copy of the template is auto generated for each candidate to work on.

  • Candidates complete the task directly in the file, no switching platforms or tools.

  • Once submitted, you get the completed document ready for review.

This means you can now simulate actual tasks from your workplace, whether it’s:

  • Drafting a customer support email

  • Filling in an HR background check template

  • Creating a marketing plan in Powerpoint

  • Documenting product issues in MS Word

Key Capabilities

  • Support for Document Uploads

Employers can upload MS Word or Excel files as task templates. Only .doc, .docx, .pptx and .ppt formats are supported currently.

  • Individual Candidate Copies

Each candidate receives a personal copy of the template, which they complete and submit within the platform.

  • Scoring Options

Employers can evaluate responses using two types of scoring:

    • Question-level scoring, for a simplified evaluation.

    • Criteria-level scoring, with support for multiple evaluation dimensions.

By default, two scoring criteria templates are provided for ease of use. Employers may edit or add new criteria as needed.

  • Rich Text Question Setup

Instructions for the task can be formatted using rich text options, including links, bullet points, and highlights.

  • Time and Difficulty Settings

Employers can set a custom time limit and define the difficulty level for each task.
