How to Use AI Context for Auto-Scoring in Long Answer, Video, and Voice AI Questions

AI Context lets you provide an ideal answer for Long Answer, Video AI, and Voice AI questions. Testlify's AI uses this benchmark to automatically compare and score candidate responses — helping you save time on manual grading while ensuring consistent, objective scoring across all candidates.

Before you begin

  • You must have a Long Answer, Video AI, or Voice AI question already added to your assessment.
  • AI Context only takes effect when Auto score using AI is enabled on the question.
  • The AI Context field accepts text only — images, videos, and audio files are not supported.

How to set up AI Context

  1. Open the question editor for a Long Answer, Video AI, or Voice AI question in your assessment.
  2. Check the Auto score using AI checkbox to enable AI-powered scoring for that question.
  3. Once enabled, the AI Context text box appears below the checkbox.
  4. Enter your ideal answer — the benchmark or model response you expect from a high-scoring candidate. Be as specific, detailed, and complete as possible.
  5. Save the question. The AI will now automatically compare each candidate's response against your ideal answer and assign a score.

Tip: The more detailed your ideal answer, the more accurate the AI scoring will be. For example, if you are asking a technical question, include all the key concepts, terminology, and reasoning a strong candidate should cover in their response.

How AI Context scoring works

  • AI scoring is configured per question — you can enable or disable it individually for each question in your assessment.
  • AI Context scoring runs independently of any manual scoring or other criteria you have set. It does not replace those methods unless you explicitly enable AI scoring on the question.
  • If Auto score using AI is not checked, the AI Context you entered is ignored and has no effect on scoring.
  • AI scoring results are currently not shown on the Candidate Display Page, shareable result links, or reports.
