Enable and Use Live Environment Check on Testlify
Live Environment Check enables dual-device proctoring: the candidate takes the assessment on a desktop while a mobile device monitors the test environment via camera. This guide explains how to enable the feature and what candidates will experience.
Before you begin
- Your Testlify plan must support Custom proctoring.
- Candidates will need both a desktop or laptop (to take the test) and a smartphone or tablet with a working camera.
- The mobile device must have a stable internet connection and sufficient battery.
Enable Live Environment Check
- Open the assessment and go to Assessment Settings.
- Select the Proctoring tab.
- Set the proctoring level to Custom.
- Turn on Snapshot Proctoring.
- Turn on Live Environment Check.
- (Optional) Set the Snapshot Interval to control how frequently images are captured.
- Click Save to apply the settings.
Tip: Snapshot Proctoring captures periodic screenshots during the test. Enabling it alongside Live Environment Check gives you the most complete monitoring coverage.

Candidate experience
When the candidate starts the assessment, a setup screen appears on their mobile device. They must position the device to capture a side or over-the-shoulder view of their workspace before they can proceed.
Before monitoring begins, the candidate must ensure:
- The mobile device is fully charged or plugged in.
- A stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection is active.
- Monitoring is not ended until the assessment is fully submitted.

End Live Environment Check
If a candidate clicks End Monitoring, a confirmation dialog appears:
"Are you sure you want to end the live environment check? This action cannot be undone and will be reported to the test administrator."
Ending monitoring early is logged and visible to administrators in the proctoring report.
Important notes
- Candidates must take the test on a desktop or laptop — the mobile device is for monitoring only and cannot be used to complete the assessment.
- A full-screen prompt appears before the test starts, requiring the candidate to confirm they are on a desktop before proceeding.
