Types of Custom Questions on Testlify

Testlify provides various custom question types to help employers design tailored assessments, ensuring accurate and efficient evaluation of candidates. These questions allow recruiters to filter, assess, and rank applicants based on their skills, knowledge, and suitability for the role.

Choice-Based Questions

  1. Qualifier – These pre-screening questions help filter out unqualified candidates before they proceed to the main assessment. If a candidate does not meet the set criteria, they are automatically disqualified from moving forward.

  2. Single Select – Candidates are given multiple options and must choose one correct answer. This is ideal for assessing knowledge, skills, or preferences where a single response is the most appropriate.

  3. Multiple Select – Candidates select all correct answers from a given list. This type of question is useful when assessing knowledge that involves multiple correct responses, requiring a deeper understanding of the subject.

  4. Yes / No – Simple binary-choice questions where candidates respond with either "Yes" or "No." This format is best for quick screening based on eligibility, preferences, or basic job requirements.

  5. Rating – Candidates rate a statement on a scale (e.g., 1-10 or 1-5), allowing recruiters to measure the intensity of opinions, skills, or experiences. This helps in evaluating subjective areas such as self-assessed proficiency, job satisfaction, or role preferences.

  6. Dropdown – A compact way to present multiple choices in a dropdown menu. Candidates must select the correct answer from the available options. This format is beneficial for conserving space in assessments and for questions that have multiple possible answers.

  7. Ranking – Candidates are required to arrange given options in a specific order based on defined criteria such as priority, preference, or relevance. This type of question helps in understanding candidates' decision-making and prioritization skills.

Text-Based Answer Questions

  1. Long Answer – Open-ended questions that require detailed, text-based responses. These are useful for evaluating a candidate’s ability to articulate thoughts, problem-solving approach, and written communication skills.

  2. Short Answer – Requires candidates to provide concise text responses, typically one or two sentences. This format is effective for gathering precise information without lengthy explanations.

  3. Number – Candidates must input a numerical value as the answer. This question type is useful for assessing knowledge related to calculations, statistics, pricing, measurements, or any data requiring a numeric response.

  4. Fill in the Blank – A sentence with a missing word or phrase that candidates must complete. This format is commonly used to test vocabulary, terminology, or key concepts in a specific subject. The blank can be filled using a typed answer or a dropdown selection.

  5. Date – Requires candidates to provide a date-based answer. This is useful for questions related to work availability, historical knowledge, project timelines, or scheduling preferences.

Hands-On Questions

  1. Coding – Candidates are required to write code to solve a given problem. This type of question helps evaluate a candidate’s programming skills, logical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities in various programming languages.

  2. Typing Test – Measures a candidate’s typing speed and accuracy. This is essential for roles that require fast and precise typing, such as data entry, transcription, or customer support.

  3. Chat AI – Simulates real-time chat scenarios to assess a candidate’s communication skills, response handling, and problem-solving abilities in customer service or support-related roles.

  4. Practical – Real-world task-based questions where candidates must complete practical assignments relevant to the job role. These assessments can include problem-solving exercises, case studies, or situational analysis.

Media Questions

  1. File Upload – Allows candidates to submit documents, images, spreadsheets, or other files as part of their assessment. This is useful for reviewing portfolios, project work, or additional supporting materials.

  2. Voice – Candidates record and submit an audio response. This helps assess verbal communication skills, pronunciation, and clarity of speech, particularly for customer service or communication-heavy roles.

  3. Voice AI – This module simulates a real-time conversation between the candidate and an AI assistant. The AI interacts with the candidate, prompting responses as if engaging in a live dialogue. The conversation is recorded, and AI analyzes the candidate’s responses for clarity, fluency, confidence, and relevance, ultimately providing an automated score.

  4. Video – Candidates record and upload a video response. This allows recruiters to evaluate communication skills, confidence, body language, and presentation abilities.

  5. Video AI – This module features an AI avatar that engages the candidate in a simulated conversation. The AI assistant interacts as if conducting a live interview, capturing the candidate’s responses on video. AI then analyzes aspects like facial expressions, speech clarity, engagement, and overall presentation, providing an automated evaluation score.
