How to Enable and Use Screen Recording Proctoring

What Is Screen Recording Proctoring?

Testlify's Screen Recording feature captures a candidate's entire screen during an assessment — giving you a complete, verifiable record of their activity without needing to be in the room.

Before You Begin

• Candidates must use a Chromium-based browser (Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge).
• Ensure candidates have a stable internet connection throughout the assessment.
• The candidate's device must support and allow screen sharing.
• This feature is billed at $5 per candidate. The first 5 candidates are free. Contact your account manager for volume pricing.

Why Enable Screen Recording?

• Enhanced security: Detect unauthorized activity — search engines, prohibited resources, or outside help — with a full-screen view of everything candidates do.
• Full transparency: Review exactly what each candidate did and stand behind every result with confidence.
• Confident hiring decisions: Make offers knowing every evaluation was secure, auditable, and verifiable.

How to Enable Screen Recording on an Assessment

1. Log in to your Testlify account and open the Assessments tab.
2. Select the assessment you want to proctor.
3. Go to Settings → Proctoring and toggle on Screen recording.
4. Click Save.

What Candidates See

Once screen recording is enabled, candidates are automatically guided through the sharing process when they start the assessment.

1. A prompt appears before the assessment begins. The candidate clicks Start sharing to continue.

   

2. The candidate reviews test details, duration, and instructions.

   

   

3. When the candidate clicks Start, a browser dialog opens. They must:
   • Select Entire Screen
   • Enable system audio sharing
   • Click Share

   

4. A screen-sharing indicator appears at the bottom of the screen, confirming the share is active.

   

5. If the candidate clicks Stop sharing, the assessment pauses until they resume sharing.

   

6. After submission, the full recording appears in the candidate's individual report for your review.

   

Tip: Mention in your invitation email that screen sharing is required. Candidates who know in advance are less likely to drop off at the start of the assessment.

What happens if a candidate declines to share their screen?
