Set Up Your Custom Domain on Testlify

Before You Begin

  • Your Testlify account must have a premium plan with white-label workspace activated.
  • You need access to your domain's DNS settings (this guide uses Cloudflare as an example).

Domain Types

Testlify supports two custom domains, both configured using the same DNS process:

  • Employer domain — the URL your hiring team uses to log in and manage assessments.
  • Candidate domain — the URL included in assessment invitations and the test-taking experience.

Set up your employer domain first, then repeat for the candidate domain if needed.

Set Up Your Employer Domain

Step 1: Add the Domain in Testlify

  1. Sign in to your Testlify account.
  2. Go to Settings > Domain.
  3. Enter your domain name (e.g., test.hnrretail.com) and click Add.
  4. Confirm the status reads: "Domain is verified but needs to be configured."

Step 2: Configure DNS in Cloudflare

  1. Log in to Cloudflare and select your domain.
  2. Go to DNS and click Add record.
  3. Choose a record type:
    • A Record — points your subdomain to an IP address provided by Testlify.
    • CNAME Record — points your subdomain to a target domain provided by Testlify.
  4. Set Name to your subdomain (e.g., test).
  5. Enter the IPv4 address or target domain provided by Testlify.
  6. Leave TTL set to Auto.
  7. Set Proxy status to Off — enabling the proxy will prevent Testlify from verifying your domain.
  8. Click Save.

Step 3: Verify Your Domain in Testlify

  1. Return to Settings > Domain in Testlify.
  2. Refresh the page if the status has not updated.
  3. Once complete, the status will show "Domain is verified."

Tip: DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. If verification does not appear right away, wait a few hours and refresh again.

Step 4: Activate Your Employer Domain

Email talent@testlify.com to request activation. Once activated, your custom domain (e.g., test.hnrretail.com) will be live for your hiring team.

Set Up Your Candidate Domain

Step 1: Add the Domain in Testlify

  1. Sign in to your Testlify account.
  2. Go to Settings > Domain.
  3. Enter your candidate domain name and click Add.
  4. Confirm the status reads: "Domain is verified but needs to be configured."

Steps 2–3: Configure DNS and Verify

Follow Steps 2 and 3 from the Set Up Your Employer Domain section above — the DNS configuration and verification process is identical for both domain types.

What Changes After Setup

Once your candidate domain is verified, assessment invitations will include your custom domain URL — reinforcing your brand with every invite sent.

Add DKIM for Enhanced Email Security

DKIM authentication protects your domain from email spoofing and improves deliverability. Configure this after your domain is active.

Step 1: Enable a Custom DKIM Selector

  1. Go to Settings > Email.
  2. Enable Use a custom DKIM selector.
  3. Enter your DKIM selector (e.g., t12_).

Step 2: Add DKIM Records to DNS

  1. Go to DNS settings in Cloudflare (or your DNS provider).
  2. Add two CNAME records using the values provided by Testlify:
    • DKIM1: t12_._domainkey.support.me
    • DKIM2: t122_._domainkey.support.me
  3. Match the values exactly as shown in your Testlify Email settings.

Step 3: Verify DKIM in Testlify

Return to Settings > Email in Testlify and confirm the DKIM configuration is verified.
