How to Secure an Assessment with a Password

What Is Secure with Password?

The Secure with Password feature lets you add a password to any Testlify assessment. Candidates must enter the correct password before they can access the test — preventing unauthorized access and impersonation, and ensuring only the people you invite can participate.

Before you begin

  • You must be logged in as an admin or test administrator.
  • The assessment you want to password-protect must already exist in your workspace.
  • Decide how you will share the password with candidates before sending the assessment invite. We recommend sending it via a separate, private message rather than in the same email as the assessment link.

How to enable Secure with Password

  1. Open your assessment

Log in to your Testlify account and navigate to the assessment you want to secure.

  2. Go to Settings > Access

Click the Settings tab on the assessment, then select the Access section. You will see the Secure with Password option listed here.

  3. Set a password

Enter a unique password for the assessment. Any characters are allowed — use a strong, unique password for best security. Once you have entered the password, click Save to apply the changes.

  4. Share the password with your candidates

When a candidate clicks the assessment link, they will be prompted to enter the password before accessing any test content. Communicate the password securely — for example, via a private email — before sending the assessment invite. Once candidates enter the correct password, they can begin the test.

Tip: Send the password in a separate message from the assessment invite link. If an invite link is accidentally forwarded, the test content stays protected because the recipient won't have the password.

What candidates experience

When a candidate opens the assessment link, they see a password entry screen before any test content is shown. Only after submitting the correct password are they able to view and start the assessment. This protects your test questions and ensures that results can be attributed to verified, authorized participants only.

Why use this feature?

  • Prevent impersonation: Only candidates who receive the password from you can start the test.
  • Protect test content: Anyone who obtains the assessment link without the password cannot access the questions.
  • Maintain hiring integrity: Combine password protection with Testlify's other proctoring settings for a comprehensive anti-cheating setup.
